Job summary

The RAND Corporation in Santa Monica, CA is hiring an Alternate Facility Security Officer (A/FSO) to support the Facility Security Officer with government classified information security, personnel security, physical security, and facility safety. This role requires the ability to operate autonomously and interface with senior leadership and government officials.

Responsibilities include document control for classified materials, briefings, visit requests, and processing security clearances.

Qualifications

• Must complete FSO training for Processing Facilities courses within 6 month of starting position.
• Must complete Insider Threat courses within 6 month of starting position.
• Must demonstrate working knowledge of the 32CFR Part 117 within 6 months of starting position.
• Must have working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Attention to detail is critical.
• Ability to discreetly handle sensitive information.
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
• Must be able to pass a background check.

Responsibilities

• Assist the FSO in ensuring security programs for handling secure materials comply with 32 CFR Part 117 (NISPOM Rule).
• Act as Document Control Specialist by maintaining accountability for classified documents and media.
• Perform briefings/debriefings and maintain security records.
• Create and manage Visit Authorization Requests and DISS records.
• Interface with internal staff and government reps on investigations to ensure compliance.
• Process personnel security information via DISS and maintain records.
• Assist with security clearances and visitor access preparations.
• Assist with development of training materials.
• Serve as Alternate COMSEC Custodian.
