Ear, Nose & Throat Associates (ENTA) is seeking an Allergy Technician to support patients referred for allergy testing and ongoing immunotherapy. This role manages daily clinic operations, patient workflow, and EMR documentation, with occasional non-clinical duties to ensure continuity of operations.

Overtime and travel to other offices may be required. The position requires high school education or GED; RN/LPN preferred or Medical Assistant certification accepted.

Position Summary: The Allergy Technician serves as the primary clinical support for patients referred, following evaluation, by Ear, Nose & Throat Associates (ENTA) treating Physicians for Allergy Testing and ongoing immunotherapy. Functions independently being responsible for the daily operation, schedule and patient workflow, records documentation and maintenance, and allergy supplies of the office to which assigned. On occasion, the Allergy Technician may also be asked to perform non-clinical responsibilities to ensure continuity of operations throughout ENTAReports to: Allergy Technicians report directly to the Allergy Manager.Flexibility: While this job description is meant to provide an overview and specific responsibilities of the Allergy Technician, ENTA Management reserves the right to make changes, adjustments, and revisions, as needed, to this document and will coordinate such modifications with ENTA’s Practice Administrator and Physicians. While the normal work week is 40 hours, you may be subject to overtime (not to exceed 50 hours per week). These hours may vary based on the clinic’s needs. You may at some point be required to travel to other offices if coverage needs arise.Summary of General Duties:Conduct initial patient interview following referral from ENTA physician, orientating, and educating the patients regarding tests to be performed and treatments provided.Updates or populates patient chart with relevant medical data; documents in the electronic Medical Record (EMR) any pertinent patient information.Ensure a physician is always on premises during the operation of the Allergy Clinic.Orders supplies for the Allergy DepartmentEnsure compliance with all provisions of the Allergy Policy Manual.Summary of Specific Duties:Delivering an incredible patient experience with safe and efficacious clinical outcomes to include the administration of quality allergy testing, and the formulation and preparation of the allergy regiment.Schedules and conducts allergy testing ordered by physicians; schedules ongoing immunotherapy, as required.Maintains Allergy Testing set and Dip well trays.Obtain Referrals for Allergy Testing and Immunotherapy as required by patient’s insurance company prior to the patient’s appointment and add to the EMR.Ensure that patients have a scheduled appointment prior to being seen in the Allergy clinic.Formulate and mix vials for patients prior to scheduled appointment (see policy manual).Document progress of immunotherapy patients, convey any concerns to the appropriate physician, ensure patients are having a yearly physician “follow-up” appointment, and that patients are complying in obtaining an Epi pen or Auvi-Q.Maintain a safe work environment (do not perform 2 allergy tests at the same time unless it is in a clinic where there are 2 allergy technicians).Keep ER kit up to date.Keep records of PPD’s and Hepatitis B vaccine for staff and physician on a yearly basis and administer vaccines for new employees. Scan and forward records to all allergy clinics on a yearly basis.Notify the Allergy Supervisor of any problems with patient care, equipment, or supplies in the clinic.Working Environment:Physical demands:Average percent of time during regular shift devote to:Walking, Squatting, Sitting, Bending, Reaching: 75%Standing: 25%Average lifting requirements:Lifting Requirements: 20-40 lbs.Frequency of Lifting: 0-25% of the timeAdditional physical demands:Ability to grasp with both hands; pinch with thumb or forefinger; turn with hand/arm; reach for (above shoulder height).Ability to type 60 wpm.Ability to operate multi-line telephone system, computer keyboard and ten-key adding machine.Visual, Hearing, and Mental demands: Vision adequate to perform essential functions such as read telephone displays/computer terminals for long periods of time, correctable to 20/20. Hearing is adequate to perform essential functions such as answering the telephone. Mental capacity adequate to perform essential functions such as quickly and accurately entering patient demographics and scanning documents while checking in multiple patients. Tact to deal with unfriendly individuals regarding various situations, and adequately handle stress.Working Conditions: Normal business office environment. Requires individual to be in uniform daily. Required to exhibit a positive attitude and a professional appearance and show great detail and accuracy. Required to exhibit quality performance of the essential job functions to help the office run effectively and efficiently.Position Requirements:High School education or GED equivalent.Allergy specialty clinic experience preferred.RN/LPN preferred; Medical Assistant/Nurse Assistant Certification (PCT, SRT, Pharmacy Tech. & etc.) accepted with a preferred minimum of 2 years of experience in the healthcare industryExcellent communication skills with patients, physicians and staff.Excellent organizational, interpersonal and decision – making skills.Ability to work in a relatively unsupervised environment with a high degree of accuracy.Ability to think clearly in stressful situations and respond quickly.The ability to attend work on a regular basisThe ability to adhere to safety rules and other reasonable regulations pertaining to the jobThe ability to refrain from negativity or excessive irritabilityThe ability to work in cooperation with other workers
