Job summary

Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) Allergy Department seeks a dedicated Allergy Technician to provide critical support to physicians and patients. The role includes performing skin tests, administering allergy injections, and handling front desk clerical tasks within the practice delivery team under supervision of a licensed provider.

The ideal candidate will have a specialized Medical Assistant diploma, at least 3 years of physician-office experience, and strong EMR/computer skills.

Qualifications

  • Specialized Diploma as a Medical Assistant.
  • Minimum 3 years of recent physician office experience.
  • Proficient with EMR systems; strong computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Documents progress of immunotherapy patients and communicates concerns to the physician.
  • Administers allergy injections and vial challenges.
  • Answers allergy department calls and retrieves messages.
  • Schedules allergy testing and ongoing immunotherapy appointments.
  • Prepares allergy serum reports and related paperwork.
  • Mixes vials for scheduled injections and prepares supplies.
  • Conducts percutaneous and intradermal allergy tests and records results in EMR.

Functions as a member of the practice clinical care delivery team to provide selected clinical care to patients under the direction of an LPN, RN, or medical provider. Performs clerical/administrative duties associated with medical practice front desk operations. **Job Duties*** Documents progress of immunotherapy patients and conveys any concerns to the appropriate physician.* Identifies and evaluates each patient and administers allergy injections/vial challenge.* Answers allergy department related phone calls and retrieves messages from allergy department voicemail.* Counsels allergy patients with arm reactions or increased symptoms; documents and advises providers.* Schedules and conducts allergy testing ordered by physicians and schedules ongoing immunotherapy.* Reviews allergy records for yearly evaluation with a physician and schedules allergy injection/new patient appointments; records and prepares allergy serum reports.* Creates allergy endpoint sheets, compiles allergy serum list, completes paperwork for serum mailings, and completes superbills for serum mailings.* Formulates and mixes vials for patients prior to scheduled appointment.* Mixes vials for current allergy patients and gives scheduled injections.* Conducts percutaneous and intradermal allergy testing and scans results into the EMR. **Minimum Qualifications*** Specialized Diploma as a Medical Assistant* 3 years recent experience in a physician office practice setting.* Ability to accept and adapt to constant change within a healthcare setting.* Excellent computer skills including EMR, word processing, and Excel.* American Heart Association Basic Life Support - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire **Preferred Qualifications*** Associate’s Degree from a Medical Assistant Program* CMA - Certified Medical Assistant - AAMA - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire **Physical Demands** Lift and carry 25 lbs. frequent sitting/standing, frequent keyboard use, \*patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
