Job summary

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Alaska Marine Highway System is seeking a highly motivated AMHS Dispatcher to join our team and help Keep Alaska Moving. You will coordinate crew assignments across Southeast and Southwest Alaska and match qualified mariners to vessels.

This role requires balancing qualifications, seniority, availability, travel, and contractual requirements while ensuring vessels are properly staffed and operations run smoothly.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or the equivalent and one year of advanced clerical experience equivalent to a Human Resource Assistant, Administrative Clerk 3 or Accounting Clerk 2 with the State of Alaska.
• One year of postsecondary education (32 semester hours or 48 quarter hours) may substitute for the required experience.
• High school graduation “equivalent” may substitute for the required experience.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate crew assignments across Southeast and Southwest Alaska to match qualified mariners to vessels.
• Respond quickly when schedules change or last-minute coverage is needed.
• Balance crew qualifications, seniority, availability, travel, and contractual requirements to keep vessels staffed safely.
• Coordinate travel, leave, payroll-related issues, and crew records with vessel employees, union representatives, and AMHS staff.
