As an AMHS Dispatcher, you’ll play a key role in keeping Alaska’s ferry system moving. You’ll coordinate crew assignments across Southeast and Southwest Alaska, match qualified mariners to the right vessels, and respond quickly when schedules change or last-minute coverage is needed. You’ll balance crew qualifications, seniority, availability, travel, and contractual requirements while ensuring vessels remain safely and properly staffed. You’ll also coordinate travel, leave, payroll-related issues, and crew records while working closely with vessel employees, union representatives, and AMHS staff to keep operations running smoothly.
Our Dispatchers work in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment. They are responsible for scheduling and dispatching licensed and unlicensed employees on our vessels, assisting staff with various questions, and will serve as a resource for collective bargaining agreements.

This is a shoreside office position. If filled in Ketchikan, the position will be located at the AMHS Headquarters, 7037 North Tongass Highway in Ketchikan.

Graduation from high school or the equivalent and one year of advanced clerical experience equivalent to a Human Resource Assistant, Administrative Clerk 3 or Accounting Clerk 2 with the State of Alaska.
One year of postsecondary education (32 semester hours or 48 quarter hours equal 1 year) from an accredited college or university in any field may substitute for the required experience.
High school graduation “equivalent
