Qualifications

• Requires minimum 3 years of experience as a protected species/marine mammal observer.
• Familiar with protected species in Alaska marine environments.
• Ability to work on shore and aboard vessels for long periods of time.

Responsibilities

• Observe marine mammals according to permit requirements near the vessel.
• Monitor all marine water within the monitoring zone and implement mitigation measures.
• Report any take occurrences to senior staff.
• Communicate effectively with vessel operators, supervisors, regulators, and clients.
• Maintain data records and participate in daily planning meetings.
