Job summary

A.I.S., Inc. (AIS) is recruiting protected species observers (PSO) to deploy during a bridge reconstruction project in Haverhill, MA.

The PSO will be stationed on land or on a construction vessel during daylight operations to record protected species sightings, especially sturgeon species, and implement mitigation measures when needed. Qualifications include a 4-year degree in biological or geophysical sciences, NMFS PSO approval, BST/GWO/BOSIET, CPR/First Aid, and the ability to work long

Qualifications

  • Must have NMFS PSO approval letter.
  • Must have BST/GWO/BOSIET training.
  • Four-year degree in biological or geophysical sciences.
  • Must be medically fit for sea duty including ability to endure confinement, stress, and lifting up to 30 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Identify marine animals by sight and with visual technology.
  • Monitor for marine mammal detections for up to 10 hours in a 24-hour period.
  • Document behaviors and other essential data.
  • Maintain organized logs of data collected.
  • Operate field equipment (GPS, binoculars, range finder, camera).
  • Perform QA/QC on data.
  • Attend daily toolbox, HSE and project meetings.
