Job summary

Golden Valley Electric Association is seeking a dedicated Safety Specialist in Fairbanks to promote a strong safety culture and protect workers, members, contractors, and the public. You will lead safety initiatives, conduct inspections, and drive continuous improvement in safety performance.

The role requires an Associate degree in safety-related field or five years of experience, plus a valid Alaska driver’s license and robust knowledge of OSHA and DOT regulations.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Science, or Engineering; five years of relevant safety experience may be substituted for education.
  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience.
  • Valid Alaska driver's license.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA and DOT regulations.
  • Computer experience with word processing, databases, spreadsheets, email, and internet applications.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, procedures, reporting, and recordkeeping.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support a variety of safety and risk programs, conduct safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
  • Investigate workplace incidents, injuries, and near misses to identify root causes and corrective actions.
  • Support workers' compensation and general liability claims, maintain safety records and OSHA documentation.
  • Develop and deliver safety training and contractor orientations; coach leaders on safety practices.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations and continuously improve safety performance.
