Job summary

Golden Valley Electric Association is seeking a Safety Specialist in Fairbanks to promote a strong safety culture, reduce workplace hazards, and protect employees and the public. You will lead safety programs, perform inspections, and support regulatory compliance across the organization.

The role includes developing training, conducting orientations for new hires and contractors, and coaching leadership on best safety practices to drive continuous improvement and a safer work environment at

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Science, or Engineering; five years of relevant safety experience may be considered in lieu of education.
  • Valid Alaska driver's license.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA and DOT regulations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, procedures, reporting, and recordkeeping.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support a variety of safety and risk programs; conduct inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
  • Investigate workplace incidents, injuries, and near misses to identify root causes and corrective actions.
  • Support workers' compensation and general liability claims; maintain required safety records and OSHA documentation.
  • Develop and deliver safety training; conduct new employee and contractor safety orientations.
  • Coach leaders on effective safety practices and work with field employees to improve safety performance.
  • Help ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations and continuous improvement of safety culture.
