Job summary

KDG Construction Consulting is seeking a Senior Airside Construction Manager to oversee a large airside aviation program as an owner's representative in California. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction, Engineering, or related field.
  • 15+ years of experience in aviation and/or public facility construction (10+ years in landside airport work).
  • Experience with airside paving and runway/taxiway projects preferred.
  • Construction inspection experience on aviation or heavy civil projects.
  • Projects of at least $50 million in total cost.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; industry knowledge and regulations.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and Primavera Contract Manager; strong document control.

Responsibilities

  • Serves on behalf of the owner to provide direction and management of the construction project.
  • Directs the overall planning of construction activities to identify milestones and priorities.
  • Determines budget estimates and staffing requirements for the defined scope and schedule.
  • Monitors contractor activity and oversees progress, recommending corrective action.
  • Manages manpower, materials, and equipment to maximize efficiency and meet budgets.
  • Provide updates to the Owner and stakeholders; address problem areas.
  • Ensure quality control and adherence to contract documents and specifications.
  • Oversee inspection activities for compliance with standards.
  • Prepare periodic progress reports for management and clients.
  • Ensure safety policies and procedures are followed; maintain client relations.
  • Perform other responsibilities as appropriate.

Job description

KDG Construction Consulting is seeking a Senior Airside Construction Manager to oversee and manage a large airside aviation construction program as an owner's representative. The Senior Airside Construction Manager will provide direction and management during the completion of a multimillion-dollar airside development project.

The ideal candidate should have strong experience in airside construction and airport environments, with familiarity in Design-Build and other alternative delivery methods. The candidate should be skilled in contractor management, field coordination, and managing schedule, cost, quality, safety, RFIs, submittals, change orders, and closeout activities. They should also be comfortable coordinating with airport operations, airlines, contractors, inspectors, engineers, FAA, and other stakeholders, with a strong understanding of FOD, runway/taxiway closures, escort requirements, badging, and airfield work-zone safety.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Serves on behalf of the owner to provide direction and management of the construction project.
  • Directs the overall planning of construction activities to identify critical milestones and priorities.
  • Determines budget estimates and staffing requirements for the defined scope and schedule.
  • Monitors contractor activity at various work areas, which includes overseeing construction operations, monitoring progress, and recommending corrective action as necessary.
  • Manages the Contractor’s assignment of manpower, materials, and equipment to maximize efficiency, maintain schedules, and to meet budget goals.
  • Keep alert to possible problem areas and take preventative action to ensure that critical milestones are met for each phase of the project. Provide updates and notifications to the Owner, as necessary.
  • Ensures the use of sound construction practices to attain required quality control at maximum efficiency and minimum cost.
  • Oversee construction inspection activities to ensure compliance with contract documents, project specifications, and quality standards.
  • Prepare periodic reports summarizing progress of construction activities for higher-level management and clients.
  • Ensures effective implementation of all Company and client policies and procedures, including safety.
  • Serves as the primary contact with client representatives, subcontractors, and government representatives for construction-related activities. Maintains strong client and community relations.
  • Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
Required Experience, Certifications, and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction, Engineering, or related technical/business field.
  • Minimum of 15 years of related work experience in aviation and/or public facility construction, preferably with at least 10 years involving landside airport-related construction and/or renovation.
  • Experience managing or overseeing airfield paving projects, including runway, taxiway, apron, or pavement rehabilitation work, is strongly preferred.
  • Construction inspection experience on aviation or heavy civil infrastructure projects is required.
  • Experience with projects of at least $50 million in total costs preferred.
  • Proven ability to perform in a management capacity.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and a thorough knowledge of industry practices and regulations required.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office Suite and document control systems, such as Primavera Contract Manager.
  • Must be able and willing to work night shift in support of active airport construction operations.
Compensation:

$165,000 - $210,000 per year
