Job summary

Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office is seeking a full-time Deputy Sheriff - Airport to join the team at the Sioux Falls Regional Airport. This role supervises security operations, maintains an armed presence, conducts screenings, and coordinates with TSA and airport staff to keep operations safe and efficient.

The position requires a South Dakota law enforcement certification (or the ability to obtain), a high school diploma or GED, and at least one year of relevant experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; must have SD law enforcement certification or ability to obtain.
• At least 1 year of relevant work experience; must be 21+ at hiring.
• Must pass firearm safety training and annual requalification.
• Valid driver’s license with clean driving record; background check.
• Ability to communicate clearly and professionally; teamwork and discretion.

Responsibilities

• Supervise airport security operations; set posts, brief priorities, coach staff.
• Maintain armed presence, coordinate with TSA, run compliance checks, respond to alarms, conduct screenings.
• Coordinate with airport operations and partners; monitor activity; respond to emergencies; make arrests as needed.
• Oversee checkpoint procedures; detain prohibited items; verify credentials for armed officers.
