AIRPORT OPERATIONS TECHNICIAN I

Reports To: Airport Operations Foreman Pay Grade/Wage: 107 - $15.00/hour
Position Type: Full-Time Hours: 40 hrs/week
Job Summary:
This position is a general handyman working with airport tenants to provide maintenance and repair maintenance issues. In addition, this position demands additional training and experience due to the highly federal regulated operating requirements of an airport. The Federal Aviation Administration dictates the regulations that the DeLand Airport operates under and the Department of Homeland Security mandates the airport security program that is supervised by the Florida Department of Transportation.
Job Description:
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Inspects, maintains, and repairs airport equipment and facilities.
Installs, inspects, and maintains airfield runways, taxiways, aprons, lighting, gates, fencing, airport signage and restrooms.
Performs sheet metal repair and fabrications, spray painting, pressure washing, electrical trouble shooting, plumbing installations, and wildlife extractions.
Performs application of herbicides and various cleaning agents.
Performs preventative maintenance on all airport vehicles and equipment weekly to keep in top operating condition.
Completes required training and safety seminars to include but not limited to Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) and the City of DeLand’s Airport Safety and Security Program.
Observes and assists with airport security and crowd control and adherence to airport regulations.
Operates landscaping equipment from hand held devices to zero turn mowers.
Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
LICENSES AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possess and maintain a valid State of Florida motor vehicles operator's license with an acceptable driving record is required.
Must train and graduate from the DeLand Airport Safety and Security program within six (6) months of hire.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to clearly and effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationship with employees, officials, and the general public.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to follow and apply common sense understanding, to carry out complex instructions furnished in written and oral form.
Ability to read and comprehend safety manuals, work orders, operation guides, instructions, letters, memos, and maps.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
WORK ENVIRONMENT/ADA: Employee may work inside an office environment, or outside in various weather conditions, with radiant energy, grease or oils, solvents, or chemicals. Employees may have to work in dusty conditions, poor lighting, noisy conditions, and darkness or on uneven surfaces. Some job tasks may require employee to bend, stoop, drive, kneel, operate equipment, crawl, push or lift or carry 75 pounds or less.
