About This Position

Over 50 million passengers traveled through Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in 2024, making it one of the busiest airports in the country in the nation's 5th largest city. Sky Harbor is the largest of three airports in the Phoenix Airport System (Phoenix Sky Harbor, Deer Valley, and Goodyear airports), operated by the City of Phoenix Aviation Department, with an annual economic impact of over $44 billion.

The Aviation Department has vacancies for an Airport Operations Assistant. This role performs safety, security, and customer service tasks in airside and landside operations. Responsibilities include public contact, handling inquiries and complaints, traffic, pedestrian, and crowd control, emergency response, operational inspections, and compliance with federal and city regulations. Applicants must be able to drive on city business with an acceptable driving record.

Duties Include
  1. Provide traffic and crowd control.
  2. Deliver excellent customer service to airport travelers.
  3. Conduct security checks.
  4. Issue notices of violations.
  5. Respond to alerts and emergencies.
  6. Enforce FAA, city, and airport rules and regulations.
  7. Serve tenants and stakeholders.
  8. Escort vehicles and aircraft in movement areas.
  9. Offer exceptional service to all stakeholders.

This position involves working 3rd shift, with vacancies in Landside and Airside Operations.

Ideal Candidate

Experience with Part 139 Airfield and Part 1542 Security regulations is a plus.

Salary

Pay Range: $20.02 to $35.96 per hour.

Hiring Range: $20.02 to $32.62 per hour.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Two years of security guard experience at a major international airport.
  • Flexible working hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various environmental conditions.
  • Background check required.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Report writing, conflict resolution, emergency response experience.
  • Experience with airport operations/security.
  • Airport certifications or aviation education is a plus.
