Altius Talent is seeking an Air Freight Operator for our freight forwarding partner near JFK. The role requires coordinating air import/export shipments, ensuring accurate documentation, and regulatory compliance in a fast-paced airport-adjacent environment.

The candidate will handle booking, documentation, AES filings, and coordination with carriers and warehouse teams on-site at Valley Stream, NY. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• 2+ years as Air Freight Operator or in a similar freight forwarding role.
• Knowledge of AES filing, IATA regulations.
• Experience with CargoWise or similar freight forwarding software.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate air freight shipments from booking to final delivery.
• Prepare and review shipping documentation including AWBs, invoices, and packing lists.
• Ensure AES filing (export) and customs entry compliance as applicable.
• Book cargo space with airlines and monitor flight schedules for on-time performance.
• Track shipments and proactively communicate with clients on status and exceptions.
• Resolve documentation issues, delays, or discrepancies with carriers and CBP as needed.
• Maintain accurate shipment records in the company's operating system (e.g., CargoWise).
• Coordinate with warehouse/ground handling teams near JFK for pickup and delivery.

Company Overview: Altius Talent is partnering with a well-established freight forwarding and customs brokerage organization to identify an experienced Air Freight Operator for their operation near JFK.

Position Overview:

The Air Freight Operator will handle the coordination and execution of air import and/or export shipments, ensuring accurate documentation, regulatory compliance, and on-time delivery. This role suits a hands-on logistics professional who thrives in a fast-paced, airport-adjacent operations environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Coordinate air freight shipments from booking through final delivery
• Prepare and review shipping documentation including AWBs, commercial invoices, and packing lists
• Ensure compliance with AES filing (export) and customs entry requirements (import) as applicable
• Book cargo space with airlines and monitor flight schedules for on-time performance
• Track shipments and communicate proactive with clients on status and exceptions
• Resolve documentation issues, delays, or discrepancies with carriers and CBP as needed
• Maintain accurate shipment records in the company's operating system (e.g., CargoWise)
• Coordinate with warehouse/ground handling teams near JFK for pickup and delivery

Key Skills & Qualifications:

• 2+ years of experience as an Air Freight Operator or in a similar freight forwarding role
• Strong knowledge of air freight documentation, AES, and IATA regulations
• Experience with CargoWise or similar freight forwarding software preferred
• Comfortable working on-site in a high-volume, airport-adjacent environment
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously
