NOW HIRING – AIRFIELD MAINTENANCE ASSOCIATE
Job Type: Full-Time | Non-Exempt
Pay: $20/hr
Schedule: Mon-Thur. and Tue-Fri quarterly rotation, 11:00AM - 9:30PM, (6:00AM-4:00PM during initial training period 30-45 days)
Snelling is hiring an Airfield Maintenance Associate to support the maintenance and upkeep of airport grounds, buildings, roadways, runways, equipment, and facilities.
This is a hands‑on position ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, operating equipment, performing general maintenance, and being part of a team that keeps airport operations safe and running smoothly.
What You'll Do
- Maintain and repair runways, taxiways, roadways, parking lots, grounds, buildings, fences, gates, doors, and site utilities
- Perform landscaping, including mowing, trimming, edging, pruning, planting, fertilizing, grading, and drainage work
- Paint runway, taxiway, roadway, parking lot, and other safety markings
- Remove trash, litter, leaves, snow, and ice
- Perform light construction and general maintenance
- Operate a variety of commercial and industrial equipment, including: Zero-turn and riding mowers, Weed eaters, blowers, trimmers, and chainsaws, Backhoes and skid steers, Front-end loaders, Sweepers and dump trucks, Snow-removal equipment, including large broom trucks, Move furniture, equipment, materials, chemicals, sand, and deicing products, Assist with airport emergencies and special events, Respond to and complete work orders using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and time required, Work cooperatively with coworkers, supervisors, vendors, tenants, and the traveling public
IMPORTANT – WINTER WEATHER REQUIREMENTS
Snow and ice removal is a major responsibility of this position.
During winter weather events, employees may be required to work extended shifts, weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime until the storm has ended and airport areas are safe and cleared.
Maintenance employees may work shifts of up to 13 hours, followed by designated rest periods, and must remain alert and focused while operating snow-removal equipment.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Knowledge of proper use of hand and power tools
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively in English
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability and willingness to learn airport work-order and payroll systems
- Ability to safely operate various types of motorized equipment
- Ability to obtain a pesticide applicator's license
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively under pressureStrong work ethic and dependable attendance
Physical Requirements
This is a heavy to very heavy physical labor position.
- Lift and carry up to 80 pounds continuously
- Stand and walk for extended periods
- Climb, bend, stoop, balance, kneel, and navigate uneven or steep terrain
- Work in confined and elevated spaces
- Get in and out of various maintenance vehicles and equipment
- Operate equipment for extended periods, including sitting in a vehicle for up to 13 hours
- Work outdoors in extreme temperatures and adverse weather conditions
- Work safely around aircraft, high-voltage sources, underground utilities, chemicals, and moving equipment
Special Requirements
- Have or obtain a valid Kentucky driver's license or CDL
- Pass required background and security investigations
- Pass pre-employment and random drug screenings
- Maintain required airport security badge access
- Successfully complete required airport security, driver, safety, and recurrent training
- Maintain a smartphone with voice, data, text, and application capabilities
- Have dependable transportation to and from work
This position is subject to ongoing airport security requirements and recurrent background/security checks.
