The Position:

We are seeking an experienced Aircraft Survival Equipment Technician II to perform organizational-level (O-Level) Aviation Life Support Systems (ALSS) maintenance, troubleshooting, and inspection for the F/A-18 variants assigned to NAS JRB Fort Worth.

Operating as a highly skilled mid-level technician, you will be responsible for diagnosing and correcting malfunctions in aircrew survival systems, personal flight gear, and oxygen infrastructure. You will work independently on daily paraloft operations, assist senior mechanics with complex testing, and ensure absolute compliance with the Naval Aviation Maintenance Program (NAMP).

Responsibilities:

ALSS & Flight Gear Maintenance:

• Perform scheduled and unscheduled inspections, testing, repair, and modification of aircrew survival equipment, including helmets, G-suits, oxygen regulators, liquid oxygen (LOX) components, torso harnesses, and survival vests.
• Inspect, test, repair, and accurately pack aircrew escape components, emergency parachutes, life rafts, and specialized survival kits following precise technical specifications.
• Utilize advanced test equipment to evaluate pressure seals, oxygen flow rates, communication configurations, and structural integrity of life support items.
• Provide customized fitting, sizing, and adjustment of tactical flight gear directly for squadron pilots and aircrew.

Safety, Tracking & Documentation:

• Monitor and execute the timely replacement of life-limited components, including low-grade pyrotechnics, survival batteries, and shelf-life items.
• Log all maintenance actions, serialization updates, and inspection checklists precisely within military data tracking databases (NALCOMIS / OOMA).
• Adhere strictly to the squadron’s Tool Control Program (TCP), Foreign Object Damage (FOD) mitigation rules, and hazardous material safety criteria.

Flight Line & Shop Support:

• Conduct pre-flight and post-flight safety checks of aircraft oxygen systems and cockpit survival configurations.
• Assist with launch and recovery operations, including emergency pilot egress assistance or gear swaps on the line.
• Help monitor workflow, organize shop toolsets, and maintain a pristine, orderly paraloft environment.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of four (4) to five (5) years of military or commercial aviation survival equipment (PR / ALSS) experience, with at least two (2) years focusing directly on tactical military jet platforms (F/A-18 variants highly preferred).
• Deep working knowledge of NAMP protocols (COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 series), oxygen handling safety, and technical publications related to flight gear.
• Proficiency in using industrial sewing machines, parachute packing tools, electrical multi-meters, and specialized oxygen test sets.
• Must possess and maintain an active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Security Clearance to access airfield networks and installation zones.
• High school diploma or equivalent. Graduation from a military aircrew survival equipment school (e.g., USN/USMC PR "A" school or equivalent) is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience maintaining oxygen, canopy, or seat survival kits specifically for F/A-18 Hornet aircraft.
• Progression toward or current qualification as an ALSS Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI).

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to safely lift, carry, and maneuver equipment blocks, weights, or survival boxes weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Fine motor skills and finger dexterity necessary for precise sewing, rigging lines, and handling delicate safety hardware.
• Physical capacity to stand, kneel, bend, and maneuver inside the tight cockpits of tactical aircraft for extended periods.
• Resilience to work in a mix of climate-controlled paraloft spaces and an outdoor flight line subject to extreme North Texas seasonal weather.
