Job summary

Strategic Support Solutions is seeking an experienced Aircraft Sheet Metal Mechanic to support a premier client in the aerospace and defense sector. You will perform corrosion control, structural repairs, and modifications on thin-skin airframes, reading blueprints and SRMs to ensure compliance and safety.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years of hands-on sheet metal fabrication, rivet-tool proficiency, and can work independently in a fast-paced hangar.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of sheet metal fabrication and structural repair on thin-skin general aviation airframes.
  • Proficiency with aviation sheet metal tools and machinery (riveters, drills, countersinks, brake tools).
  • Strong riveting technique knowledge (solid rivets, CherryMAX, Hi-Loks) and safety focus.
  • Ability to work independently, troubleshoot discrepancies, and meet production deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Perform corrosion mitigation, structural repairs, and modifications on aircraft skin panels, ribs, stringers, and structural components.
  • Inspect, evaluate, and document structural damage to sheet metal systems per SRMs and technical data.
  • Work with thin-gauge aluminum and composite surfaces, including cutting, bending, forming, dimpling, and flushing sheet metal parts.
  • Remove, fabricate, fit, and reinstall aircraft panels, skins, cowlings, and fairings.
  • Mechanically strip finishes and prepare surfaces using approved methods and chemical/mechanical treatments.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering orders, technical schematics, and manufacturer specs.
  • Document maintenance actions, logbooks, parts requisitions, and work orders per FAA/regulatory guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform corrosion mitigation, structural repairs, and modifications on aircraft skin panels, ribs, stringers, and structural components.

Qualifications & Requirements
Experience & Skills
  • Minimum Experience: At least three (3) years of direct experience performing sheet metal fabrication and structural repair on thin-skin general aviation airframes.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with standard aviation sheet metal tools and machinery (e.g., rivet guns, bucking bars, pneumatic drills, countersinks, shears, brakes, and precision measuring devices).
  • Strong working knowledge of standard riveting techniques (solid rivets, blind fasteners/CherryMAX, Hi-Loks).
  • Proven ability to work independently, troubleshoot structural discrepancies, and meet production deadlines in a fast-paced hangar environment.
  • Strong professional communication skills and focus on safety culture.
Tools & Equipment
  • Candidates must possess their own complete set of tools required for the job.
  • All tools must be shadowed and etched in compliance with the site's tool control policy before starting.
Certifications & Checks
  • An FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) license is preferred but not required.
  • A practical skills test will be administered as part of the hiring process.
  • Must be able to pass employment verification and an FBI criminal history records check for unescorted access to Security Identification Display Areas (SIDA).
Physical Demands
  • Must be physically able to perform all duties of an aircraft mechanic.
  • Ability to stand, squat, sit, walk, and work with arms overhead for extended periods.
  • Capable of lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 lbs.
