Job summary

Strategic Support Solutions is seeking a skilled Aircraft Sheet Metal Mechanic to join our team in Greenville, SC. You will perform structural repairs, modifications, and corrosion control on various aircraft, working with thin-skinned airframes and reading technical drawings to ensure safety and quality.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years of experience with sheet metal tools such as rivet guns and pneumatic drills, and can manage time in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of recent, continuous sheet metal experience on general aviation aircraft.
  • Proficient with rivet guns, drills, sanders, grinders and measuring tools.
  • Ability to read blueprints and engineering drawings accurately.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with safety focus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform corrosion repair and structural modifications on aircraft panels and components.
  • Inspect and evaluate structural damage to sheet metal systems.
  • Strip paint and prepare surfaces for coating using suitable materials and methods.
  • Remove and reinstall panels and skins for maintenance.
  • Read blueprints and specs to ensure work meets standards.
  • Complete paperwork including work orders and parts requests per manuals.

Aircraft Sheet Metal/Structural Mechanic

Full Time Greenville, SC, US

Salary Range: $27.00 To $32.00 Hourly

Job Summary

Strategic Support Solutions is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Aircraft Sheet Metal Mechanic to join our team. You will be assigned to support a premier client in the aerospace and defense industry, performing structural repairs, modifications, and corrosion control on a variety of aircraft.

The ideal candidate will be an expert in working with thin-skinned aircraft, adept at reading technical drawings, and committed to the highest standards of safety and quality. This role requires a high degree of proficiency with industry-standard tools and procedures. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform corrosion repair, mitigation, and structural modifications on aircraft panels and components.
  • Inspect and evaluate structural damage to aircraft sheet metal systems.
  • Mechanically strip paint materials and prepare composite surfaces using state-of-the-art materials and methods.
  • Remove and reinstall aircraft panels, skins, and other components in preparation for maintenance and coating applications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, technical data, and manufacturing specifications to ensure all work is performed to standard.
  • Accurately complete all required paperwork, including work orders, log entries, and parts requests, utilizing manufacturers' manuals.

Qualifications & Requirements

Experience & Skills

  • A minimum of three (3) years of recent and continuous experience as a sheet metal mechanic, specifically working on general aviation aircraft with thin skins.
  • Proficiency with common sheet metal tools, including rivet guns, pneumatic drills, sanders, grinders, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Strong ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Professional demeanor with the ability to handle stressful situations.

Tools & Equipment

  • Candidates must possess their own complete set of tools required for the job.
  • All tools must be shadowed and etched in compliance with the site's tool control policy before starting.

Certifications & Checks

  • An FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) license is preferred but not required.
  • A practical skills test will be administered as part of the hiring process.
  • Must be able to pass employment verification and an FBI criminal history records check for unescorted access to Security Identification Display Areas (SIDA).

Physical Demands

  • Must be physically able to perform all duties of an aircraft mechanic.
  • Ability to stand, squat, sit, walk, and work with arms overhead for extended periods.
  • Capable of lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 lbs.
