Job summary

GLSS at NAS Oceana seeks an Aircraft Mechanic III to lead a maintenance team in performing inspections and maintenance on complex aircraft systems. The role requires hands-on expertise with fighter jets, Airframe and powerplant knowledge, and the ability to guide lower-level technicians.

The candidate must hold a DoD Secret clearance and have 5+ years of relevant experience, including F-18E/F operations, to ensure aircraft availability and mission readiness.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• F-18E/F maintenance program completed.
• Active DoD Secret Security Clearance.
• 5+ years of experience maintaining fighter jet aircraft at the organizational, intermediate or depot level.
• 5+ years of experience maintaining F-18E/F aircraft.

Responsibilities

• Leads a team in aircraft maintenance, inspections, and scheduled/unscheduled maintenance.
• Maintains repairs and modifies aircraft structures, engines, and components.
• Applies technical knowledge of airframe and powerplant systems to diagnose malfunctions.
• Provides technical guidance and interprets blueprints or manuals.
• Maintains detailed aircraft logs and records; supports engineers and customers.

Job Description:

Leads a team in the performance of aircraft maintenance, inspections, and scheduled / unscheduled maintenance. Applies technical experience to supervise subordinate mechanics and provide technical guidance on maintenance operations on the airframe being supported. Capable of performing, supervising and inspecting the duties of Mechanic Is, IIs and IIIs.

Responsibilities:

• A person in this position maintains repairs and modifies aircraft structures, structural components and engines of complex to extreme difficulty.

• Maintains and repairs aircraft components including but not limited to flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems and mechanical components.

• Applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions.

• Applies technical expertise in restoring equipment condition and operation.

• Applies professional technical expertise and guidance to solve complex problems by interpreting technical data such as blueprints or manufactures' manuals.

• Work typically requires a thoroughly comprehensive knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting/repair procedures and replacement of components.

• A thorough knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modification and repair and the ability to determine functionality of non-complex electrical systems.

• A detailed knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable tensiometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers, etc.

• Must possess the experience and ability to provide technical support to structural/mechanical engineers and customers alike.

• Must possess excellent organizational skills in prioritizing workload to meet aircraft delivery schedule.

• This worker will be required to make entries in aircraft logs and records.

• Responsible for providing guidance and technical expertise to lower level technicians throughout all aircraft modifications and/or maintenance efforts.

Qualfications:

• High School Diploma or equivelant.

• Graduate of F-18E/F Militarty Service Aircraft Maintenance Program highly desireable.

• Active DOW Secret Security Clearance.

• Five or more years of experience maintaining fighter jet aircraft at the organizational, intermediate or depot level.

• Five or more years of experience maintaining F-18E/F aircraft is highly desireable.
