AirCare Paramedic, Ground Transports (Wilkes Base), Full-Time 12 hr. Nights

Job Summary:

Provides emergency care to patients according to treatment protocols in accordance with NCCEP protocols set forth by the N.C. Office of EMS (NCOEMS). Involves serving as a care team member in the Emergency Department in accordance to the Scope of Practice set forth by the Non-Traditional Practice Setting Agreement with N.C. Office of EMS and the Medical Center/hospital. Serves patients across all age categories: neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.

Education/Experience:

Paramedic certification from an accredited program, or an Associate's of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in paramedic studies or equivalent. Three years of Emergency Service experience preferred.

Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration:

Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and NC-OEMS EMT-P certification required. ACLS or PALS may be required within one year in certain areas. Critical care certificate or national registry paramedic preferred. Maintains certification through affiliation with approved NC-OEMS education provider.

Essential Functions:
  1. Provides patient/family-centered care addressing physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious, and environmental needs.
  2. Maintains a safe, respectful, and professional environment, ensuring patient privacy and utilizing technology and equipment for safety.
  3. Communicates effectively to share information across the care continuum and as part of the healthcare team.
  4. Participates in shared governance, adheres to standards of care, and promotes professional development and leadership.
  5. Acts as a patient advocate throughout the care continuum and community.
  6. Identifies clinical priorities and initiates actions to improve patient outcomes.
  7. Uses medications, treatments, and protocols within scope of practice as ordered by physicians.
  8. Performs and maintains competency for point of care testing, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations.
  9. Documents all medication and treatments in the Electronic Medical Record.
  10. Provides and documents patient re-assessment according to hospital policies.
  11. Demonstrates teamwork with ED care team members.
  12. Supports evidence-based practice, research, and quality improvement initiatives.
  13. Upholds the organization's patient promise.
  14. Facilitates patient flow and ensures safety and security of all patients.
Skills/Qualifications:

Ability to provide direct and indirect patient care, strong communication skills, and collaborative work ethic. Ability to evaluate and respond to patient communication across all age groups. Builds rapport with hospital personnel, providers, patients, and visitors. Capable of pushing stretchers, wheelchairs, and equipment. Proficient in electronic documentation and compliant with laws, policies, and protocols.

Work Environment:

Handles emergency situations, often in stressful and crowded conditions. Moderate noise environment. Subject to interruptions. Must wear PPE.

Physical Requirements:

Activities include standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, dexterity, talking, hearing, seeing, and lifting weights up to 100 lbs with assistive devices.
