Job summary

The City of Cape Girardeau is seeking a qualified Air Traffic Controller to prevent collisions by organizing and expediting the flow of air traffic at the airport. The role supports safe and efficient operation and requires certification as an CTO with FAA knowledge.

The position offers hourly, non-exempt status with bi-weekly pay, comprehensive benefits, and a total compensation value indicative of the hourly rate plus benefits.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of FAA Handbook 7110.65.
• Knowledge of air traffic control techniques.
• Knowledge of aircraft performance.
• Knowledge of airport configurations.
• Skill in problem solving and decision making.
• Skill in oral and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Provides for the safe, orderly, and expeditious flow of air traffic.
• Originates, delivers and relays clearances authorizing movement of aircraft, vehicles, and personnel on the airport; coordinates with other ATC agencies to ensure safety.
• Issues air traffic advisories to alert pilots to traffic and obstacles.
• Contacts local law enforcement and airport security in emergencies.
• Provides weather updates and hourly reports; monitors ASOS.
• Monitors navigation aids and related instruments.
• Performs the duties of the Controller in Charge (CIC).
• Participates in supplemental training.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
