The City of Cape Girardeau is seeking an Airport Air Traffic Controller to prevent collisions by organizing and expediting the flow of air traffic. This hourly, non-exempt role requires precise communication and adherence to FAA procedures to ensure safe operations at the airport.

Key duties include issuing clearances, coordinating with ATC agencies, delivering weather updates and advisories, monitoring navigation aids, and serving as Controller in Charge while participating in ongoing training

Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of FAA Handbook 7110.65.
• Experience operating an ATC facility or similar.
• Strong problem solving and decision making.

Responsibilities

• Provides for the safe, orderly, and expeditious flow of air traffic.
• Originates, delivers and relays clearances authorizing movement of aircraft, vehicles, and personnel; coordinates with other ATC agencies.
• Issues air traffic advisories to alert pilots to traffic and obstacles.
• Contacts local law enforcement and airport security in case of emergency.
• Provides weather updates and hourly reports; monitors ASOS.
• Monitors navigation aids including runway lighting, taxiway lighting, approach lighting, wind instruments, clocks, altimeters, ASOS monitors, and the Dictaphone panel.
• Performs the duties of the Controller in Charge (CIC).
• Participates in supplemental training.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Major Duties

• Provides for the safe, orderly, and expeditious flow of air traffic.
• Originates, delivers and relays clearances authorizing the movement of aircraft, vehicles, and personnel on the airport; coordinates with other air traffic control agencies to ensure the safe movement of aircraft; relays all movement information of aircraft.
• Issues air traffic advisories to alert pilots to traffic and obstacles.
• Contacts local law enforcement and airport security in the event of an emergency.
• Provides weather updates and hourly reports; monitors ASOS.
• Monitors all electronic aids to navigation, including runway lighting, taxiway lighting, approach lighting, wind instruments, clocks, altimeters, ASOS monitors, and the Dictaphone panel.
• Performs the duties of the Controller in Charge (CIC).
• Participates in supplemental training.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must possess a previous facility rating.
• Possess Air Traffic Control Tower (CTO) Certificate.
• Possess METAR Certification.
• Possess FAA Class II Medical Certification.

Salary and Benefits

Salary per hour: $36.58, plus generous benefit package.

• Bi-weekly pay periods.
• 13paid holidays per year.
• 96 hours of vacation – accrued throughout the year.
• 96 hours of sick leave – accrued throughout the year.
• 2 days of personal leave per fiscal year. Must be employed on July 1 of the fiscal year to receive.
