Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Assistant Air Quality and Noise Specialist in Kansas City to provide acoustics and noise control services across power, industrial, commercial, oil & gas, and manufacturing sectors.

The role supports environmental analyses, architectural acoustics, FHWA TNM development, air permitting, and emission calculations, with travel to project sites and a focus on safety and collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Environmental Engineering with ABET preferred.
• Course work in vibration, acoustics, and noise control preferred.
• Internship or related consulting experience in noise control or acoustics preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Able to work analytically in quantitative problem solving.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office.
• CadnaA experience favored.
• EIT certification preferred.
• Minimum GPA of 3.0 preferred.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing environmental noise analyses for industrial, utility, and transportation clients.
• Assist in developing architectural acoustic analyses for spaces to achieve optimal performance.
• Assist with FHWA Traffic Noise Model (TNM) development.
• Assist with air permit applications and air dispersion modeling.
• Travel to project sites for ambient and compliance sound surveys.
• Ensure compliance with safety policies.
• Perform emission calculations and greenhouse gas analyses.
• Contribute to other environmental tasks as assigned.
