Pinellas County’s Environmental Management Division, Air Quality Division, is seeking an Air Quality Enforcement Coordinator (Environmental Specialist 3) in Clearwater, FL. Pinellas County’s Environmental Management Division (DEM) is dedicated to protecting, monitoring, and improving the quality of our air, water, and other natural resources. Within DEM, the Air Quality Division’s Compliance section operates under approval from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) through the state of Florida to ensure compliance with Clean Air Act regulations.
This is an advanced professional, technical position processing enforcement cases and performing inspections of both permitted and unpermitted facilities within the Air Quality Division. Specific program areas include Title V, minor source, and permit by rule facilities as well as asbestos removal and demolition projects. The position requires the interpretation of complex federal air regulations, Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) rules and statutes, and pertinent local regulations. It also requires the management of enforcement cases from initial violation determination to completion in an efficient, cost-effective manner to ensure compliance with all pertinent requirements. Data generated is utilized in control strategies to create a more healthful environment for citizens and guests of Pinellas County.
Experience – progressively responsible work experience in environmental regulation, more specifically in air quality.
Education – Seven (7) years of professional level experience in the assigned field of environmental management; or a 4-year college or university degree with major course work in physical, natural or biological science, anthropology, ecology, environmental engineering, or related field, and three (3) years of professional level experience in the assigned field of environmental management; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
Good verbal and writing skills and tact are required to resolve problems, explain regulations and diffuse potential confrontational situations.
