Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Department of Environmental Protection seeks an Air Quality District Supervisor to guide field staff, oversee programs, and communicate air quality issues to the public. The role emphasizes teamwork, compliance, and problem solving across the Northcentral Region.

The position features a standard 8-to-4 schedule with travel to inspection sites, possible telework up to three days per week, and a starting salary of $69,086 per year.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience as an Air Quality Specialist (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• One year of experience as an Air Monitoring Program Supervisor (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• Three years of professional work in the control and abatement of air pollution and a Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or an environmental field closely related to Air Quality Management; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and/or training.

Responsibilities

• Guide staff in carrying out air quality inspections, data reviews, and regulatory duties
• Direct hiring, training, evaluations, and scheduling to support effective team performance
• Review work for accuracy, ensure policies are followed, and oversee enforcement actions
• Evaluate reports, inspection findings, and permit activities to support sound environmental decisions
• Share information with the public, local officials, and stakeholders about air quality matters
• Support actions during environmental incidents to protect the public and minimize impacts

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or an environmental field closely related to Air Quality Management
