Job summary

The State of Indiana's IDEM seeks an Environmental Engineer 2 to review air permit applications (MSOP, FESOP and Part 70) and draft approvals that are enforceable and compliant with air pollution laws. This role emphasizes attention to regulations and delivering high-quality work.

Four years of engineering experience and a Bachelor's in Engineering are required; licensure in Indiana may substitute. You will draft permit conditions, coordinate with Enforcement, and interact with staff, industry

Qualifications

  • Four (4) years engineering work experience plus a bachelors degree in Engineering from an accredited four-year college required.
  • A combination of related work experience and accredited graduate training in Engineering may also be considered.
  • License to practice engineering in the State of Indiana may be considered in place of all the above requirements. (Proof of licensure must accompany application.)

Responsibilities

  • Writes all levels of permit approvals expeditiously and with minimal error or guidance. The permit documents must include conditions that are practically enforceable and assure compliance with state and federal air pollution laws.
  • Coordinates with the Compliance and Enforcement Branch regarding monitoring, testing and enforcement.
  • Coordinates with the other Office of Air Quality programs on projects and activities related to monitoring and modeling.
  • Works closely with staff and management to foster a positive work environment, supportive of the agency mission and goals while promoting employee development.
  • Responds to inquiries from citizens, regulated communities, environmental groups, attorneys, engineers and government officials.
  • Provide prompt responses back to the general public, consultants, contractors, government officials, permit applicants.
