Job summary

The State of Indiana, via the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM), seeks a quality assurance-focused professional for emissions testing and continuous emissions monitoring. The role blends field and office work with travel 1–2 days per week.

A strong math and science background is helpful; a degree is not required if five years of relevant environmental experience is met. You will review test plans, attend field testing, and prepare related reports.

Qualifications

• Broad knowledge of environmental protection principles and practices.
• Thorough knowledge of chemistry, biology, hydrology, mathematics, engineering and related environmental sciences.
• Ability to interpret and apply legal terminology in various conditions.
• Excellent research and writing skills for precise reports.
• At least five years of environmental or environmental public health experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Responsibilities

• Serves as an environmental expert and provides guidance to regulated communities and staff.
• Project management to ensure timely program needs and deliverables; acts as technical contact for programs.
• Researches guidance and regulations related to permits; interacts with applicants.
• Inspects facilities, conducts investigations, and cites violations when necessary.
• Uses compliance tools to return regulated sources to compliance with laws and standards.
• Supports multiple agency programs and conducts field work per SOPs.
• Performs technical analysis and testing to assess environmental impacts.
