We issue air, water, and solid and hazardous waste permits that restrict discharges to environmentally safe levels. Staff members inspect and monitor regulated entities; provide compliance and technical assistance; monitor and assess air, land, and water quality; use enforcement actions as necessary to ensure compliance; and respond to incidents involving spills to soil or waters of the state.
Role Overview:
The Environmental Engineer 2 reviews complicated applications from a wide range of industries and issues different level air permit approvals. The Employee is responsible for drafting these approvals, which includes drafting conditions that are practically enforceable and assure compliance with state and federal air pollution laws and regulations. Must be detail-oriented, able to understand state and federal rules, and take pride in delivering high quality work.

The purpose of this position is to perform those activities as necessary to help the Permit Review Section achieve its goals as they relate to the overall strategic goals and objectives of the Permits Branch. As such, you would reviewapplications for Air permit approvals which include MSOP, FESOP and Part 70 permits; and modifications, revisions and amendments to these permits. You are responsible for drafting these approvals, which includes drafting conditions that are practically enforceable and assure compliance with state and federal air pollution laws and regulations.
Youalso researchstate and federal guidance related to permitting and state and federal air pollution laws and regulations. You workwith minimal direct supervision and follows general instructions concerning purpose and desired results, through consultation with the supervisor as needed.
Four (4) years engineering work experienceplus a bachelors degree in Engineering from an accredited four-year college required. A combination of related work experience and accredited graduate training in Engineering may also be considered. License to practice engineering in the State of Indiana may be considered in place of all the above requirements. (Proof of licensure must accompany application.)

Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and at least four (4) years of experience in Engineering and related fields.
Individuals should have the ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Workmay be non-routine and requiresconsiderabletechnical judgement, interpretation and innovative thinking.
You will work independently following general instructions concerning purpose and desired results given prior to start of work. You may need occasional technical supervision and may be responsible for the planning, implementation and operation of assigned projects or programs under the guidance of a supervisor. Problems and deviations from guidelines are discussed with the supervisor. Final results are reviewed for soundness of judgment and completion of goals.
