Job summary

GEODIS in Chicago, IL is seeking an Air Operations Manager to direct import and export operations for the station, ensuring compliant, productive, and profitable performance.

You will monitor team productivity, establish new accounts, train staff, review reports, and coordinate on-site technologies while interfacing with clients and internal teams to grow efficiencies and service quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Minimum 4–7 years of relevant experience or equivalent
• Deep knowledge of international air freight procedures and regulations (AES, AMS, TSA) and Incoterms
• Proficiency with MS Office(Word/Excel/Outlook/PowerPoint)
• Ability to analyze complex information and write reports and procedures
• Strong presentation and communication skills
• Ability to lead and develop teams across shifts

Responsibilities

• Direct import/export operations for the station and related functions.
• Monitor team productivity and assign new accounts.
• Establish new accounts based on client information.
• Initiate and manage new client startup processes.
• Train team members on new client accounts.
• Review daily reports to prevent errors and address discrepancies.
• Manage hiring, coaching, and performance of employees.
• Ensure records of time and attendance are kept.
• Oversee on-site technologies and provide cross-station support.
• Attend industry seminars and conferences.
• Perform other duties as required.

Job description

The Air Operations Manager is responsible for directing the import and/or export operations of the department and related functions of the station while maintaining a compliant, productive and profitable operation.

• Monitors team productivity and assigns new accounts


• Establishes new accounts, based upon review of POA’s and completed client information sheets, etc.


• Initiates and handles new client start up processes


• Trains individuals within teams to take responsibility of new client accounts


• Reviews daily reports to eliminate potential errors


• Reviews and addresses accounting discrepancies


• Manages employees including interviewing, hiring, training, evaluation, and coaching


• Ensures assigned work group members have recorded time and attendance


• Oversees on-site technologies


• Offers support to other stations as needed


• Attends industry related seminars, conferences, etc.


• Other duties as required and assigned

What you need: (requirements)

• Bachelor’s degree from a 4 year college or university preferred


• Minimum 4 to 7 years relevant experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience


• In-depth knowledge of international air freight procedures, customs regulations, AES, AMS, TSA, IATA/ICAO rules, and Incoterms


• Must be PC literate and proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint


• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations


• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals


• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public


• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists


• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
