Job summary

The Custom Companies, Inc. in Northlake, IL is seeking a dependable Forwarding Operations Specialist to join our Air Freight & Expedited Services team. This late-shift role combines office-based coordination with hands-on dock and warehouse tasks.

You will manage shipments from acceptance to final delivery, coordinate carriers, enter data in the TMS, monitor in-transit status, and support time-sensitive operations through the afternoon and evening hours.

Qualifications

• Experience in transportation, freight forwarding, warehouse, distribution, or logistics operations.
• Knowledge of air freight, expedited transportation, LTL, or distribution operations is strongly preferred.
• Willingness to work Monday–Friday, 12:00 PM–9:00 PM late shift.
• Ability to work in both office and warehouse/dock environments.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily freight forwarding activities from shipment acceptance through final delivery.
• Enter, maintain, and manage shipment information within the Transportation Management System (TMS).
• Review shipment details, including piece counts, weight and dimensions, routing, service levels, and delivery requirements.
• Coordinate pickups, deliveries, routing, and carrier assignments.
• Monitor shipments in transit and provide proactive status updates.
• Identify and resolve operational exceptions, delays, and service issues.
• Ensure shipment documentation is accurate and properly maintained.
• Provide hands-on support for daily dock and warehouse activities.
• Assist with freight receiving, inspection, staging, consolidation, loading, and unloading.
