Job summary

Nippon Express USA is seeking an experienced Export Agent in California to manage import/export documentation, coordinate shipments, and liaise with brokers, customers, and overseas agents. The role emphasizes accuracy, timely communication, and KPI-driven performance.

The position requires at least one year in export-related work, a high school diploma, and proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Lotus Notes, and AS/400. Weekend/holiday flexibility is a plus; bilingual English/Japanese is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of international commerce terms and customs regulations desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communications.

Responsibilities

  • Handle job assignments as determined by Team Leader or above.
  • Provide support to other Import Agents for import documentation and general business tasks.
  • Prepare import shipments, including customs clearance, shipping, labeling, and distribution of cargo.
  • Prepare export documents for distribution to brokerage department or customers’ broker.
  • Coordinate pickups and deliveries with trucking companies, airlines, steamship lines and bonded facilities.
  • Filing and data entry; issue freight bills and collect unpaid invoices.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, overseas agents, and subcontractors.
  • Meet KPI standards and maintain professional relationships with customers and colleagues.
  • Work schedule: Monday–Friday, 9am–6pm; overtime as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Handle job assignments as determined by Team Leader or above. Job may be isolated to one job function and/or one account.
  • Provide support service to other Import Agent for import documentation General business support function as assigned.
  • Prepare import shipments for assigned customers. This may include customs clearance, shipping, labeling, and distribution of cargo. Generate delivery orders and shipping labels as needed.
  • Prepare export documents for distribution to brokerage department and/or Customers’ Broker
  • Coordinate pickup and delivery orders with trucking companies, airlines, steamship line and/or bonded facilities to obtain necessary information to process shipments in the best way.
  • Filing and data entry.
  • Issue freight bills and invoices to brokers and responsible for collecting unpaid invoices within credit term.
  • General business support function as assigned
  • Effectively communicate with customers, overseas agents and subcontractors.
  • Meet KPI standards in accordance with Company/Branch initiatives
  • Must develop, demonstrate and maintain professional, courteous and respectful working relationships with all customers, co-workers, subcontractors and vendors at all times.
  • Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 9am - 6pm. Overtime as needed to meet the business demands

Hourly Pay Range: $25.00- 26.00. This range is a good faith estimate of the expected salary range for this position, based on a wide range of factors including qualifications, experience and training, operational and business needs and other considerations permitted by law. At NEU, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role.

Qualifications
  • At least one (1) year experience in an Export Role or similar industry experience
  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate or significant or relevant or appropriate working experience.
  • Computer proficiency (MS Work, Excel, Lotus Notes, AS/400).
  • Some knowledge of general and Export Computer application technology desirable.
  • Some knowledge of international commerce (sales and payment term, method, customs regulations etc.) desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communications.
  • Must be able to accommodate a flexible work schedule including weekends and holidays as necessary.
  • Good teamwork skills and inclination.
  • Bilingual English/ Japanese a plus
Organization Relationships

Will work with all levels in the organization. Working closely with the warehouse staff

Work Environment

(With or without accommodations) This position is predominantly sedentary office work, which involves sitting, typing, filing, and conversing on the phone. Also, scanning documents and occasionally going to the warehouse to bring down documents or check cargo. Most communication is via email.
