Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Department of Military & Veterans Affairs is seeking an Aide Trainee for the Pennsylvania Soldiers' and Sailors' Home in Erie. You will learn essential resident care skills while supporting daily operations and helping veterans with dignity and respect.

In this role you will participate in training, assist with rounds, meals, and activities, and work on a 2nd shift schedule with opportunities to grow a health care career in a state facility.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports the delivery of basic resident care and contributes to a safe, organized, and supportive environment. The role combines training, hands‑on practice, and teamwork to help residents reach their fullest potential. As an Aide Trainee, you will perform the following duties:

  • Training Participation: Attend classroom instruction and complete on-the-job training to learn care techniques
  • Care Assistance: Support daily resident needs including rounds, room organization, and safe environment checks
  • Basic Support: Respond to call bells, assist with simple requests, and communicate clinical needs to nursing staff
  • Meal Services: Help distribute trays, provide feeding assistance, and document information as assigned
  • Resident Activities: Assist residents during events, appointments, and recreational programs
  • Equipment Care: Clean medical equipment and maintain supplies for resident use

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM (2nd shift), with a 30-minute lunch. You will work a rotating schedule and every other weekend. Work hours may change based on operational needs.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non‑negotiable.

Preferred Qualification (not required):

  • Previous experience working in a long-term care facility
