Job summary

Southeast Veterans Center in Pennsylvania is seeking a compassionate Therapeutic Activities Aide to plan, lead, and support resident activities, helping individuals reach their physical, cognitive, and social best. Responsibilities include guiding residents during activities, ensuring safety, and coordinating with staff to deliver engaging programs.

The role requires a demonstrated ability to support social interaction, manage supplies, and participate in ongoing trainings.

Qualifications

  • Six months of experience as an Aide Trainee (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration).
  • Six months of work experience providing care to individuals requiring assistance with daily activities.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and lead recreational and educational activities and outings.
  • Assist individuals and groups during activities to help residents socialize and enjoy themselves.
  • Maintain safe conditions, perform minor housekeeping duties, observe resident behavior, and report concerns or incidents to supervisors.
  • Drive and escort residents to and from program outings, help residents transfer to and from wheelchairs and bus seats.
  • Maintain inventory of activity supplies and equipment, prepare items needed for activities, and initiate purchase requests when needed.
  • Attend trainings and meetings to support quality assurance, performance improvement, and facility goals.

This position conducts planned sessions of resident activities under the direction of Therapeutic Recreational Services staff. Works help lead residents of the southeastern veterans center to their highest level of physical, cognitive, and social abilities. As a Therapeutic Activities Aide, you will perform the following duties:

  • Activity Support: Plan, organize, and lead recreational and educational activities and outings such as parties, dances, shopping, crafts, games, picnics, music, and more
  • Resident Guidance: Assist individuals and groups during activities to help residents socialize, build relationships, and enjoy themselves
  • Safety Oversight: Maintain safe conditions, perform minor housekeeping duties, observe resident behavior, and report concerns or incidents to supervisors
  • Transportation: Drive and escort residents to and from program outings, help residents transfer to and from wheelchairs and bus seats
  • Supplies Management: Maintain inventory of activity supplies and equipment, prepare items needed for activities, and imitate purchase requests when needed
  • Team Participation: Attend trainings and meetings to support quality assurance, performance improvement, and facility goals

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with Sunday & Monday off, and with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Six months of experience as an Aide Trainee (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Six months of work experience providing care to individuals requiring assistance with daily activities; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional Requirements:
  • You must possess a valid driver's license which is not under suspension.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
