Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Delaware Valley Veterans' Home in Philadelphia, PA, invites applications for a Therapeutic Activities Aide. You will lead engaging activities to boost residents' physical, cognitive, and social skills, bringing joy and comfort to veterans.

This full-time position runs 11:30 AM–8:00 PM, with every other weekend and rotating holidays. A medical exam and background checks are required; experience in resident care is preferred.

Qualifications

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role centers on leading planned activity sessions that help residents reach their best physical, cognitive, and social abilities. It supports a safe and welcoming environment for veterans and those who work with them. As a Therapeutic Activities Aide, you will perform the following duties:

  • Activity Support: Assist in planning and leading recreational and educational activities that promote resident socialization and self-esteem
  • Resident Engagement: Guide residents during activities such as parties, outings, games, crafts, exercise, and other group events
  • Safe Transport: Escort residents to programs, transfer residents as needed, and operate state vehicles for activity transportation
  • Supply Management: Maintain activity supplies and equipment, select needed materials, and prepare purchase requests
  • Behavior Observation: Observe resident behavior, document participation, and report concerns or incidents to supervisors
  • Team Participation: Attend trainings, facility meetings, and support quality improvement initiatives through shared ideas and active involvement
Work Schedule and Additional Information
  • Full-time employment (8 hours per day/40 hours per week)
  • Work hours are 11:30 AM to 8:00 PM, with a 30-minute lunch. In this role, you will be required to work every other weekend and rotating holidays as scheduled.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six months of experience as an Aide Trainee (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Six months of work experience providing care to individuals requiring assistance with daily activities; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirement:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
