Job summary

Katy ISD is hiring a SPED aide at Taylor High School in Katy, TX. Immediate start and 187 duty days; non-exempt paraprofessional providing instructional and student-care support under the principal.

Requires ParaPro or 48 college hours (Title I) or 15 hours plus diploma; TEA II certificate preferred. CPI familiarity helpful for behavior supports and safety.

Qualifications

• Must have 48 college hours or a 464 ParaPro score for Title I campus
• College hours 15 or high school diploma or GED with 464 ParaPro score for Non-Title I campus
• Valid Texas Educational Aide II certificate
• Ability to work with children with disabilities
• Ability to follow verbal and written instruction
• Ability to communicate effectively
• Knowledge of general office equipment
• Valid CPI certification preferred (can be obtained after employment)

Primary Purpose:

Clerical, instructional and student-care duties as assigned

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Adhere to federal, state and local policies and procedures related to special education aides.
• Participate in planned in-services and professional growth activities.
• Assist in carrying out the instructional program.
• Assist in maintaining student records, audit folders and data collection.
• Assist in preparation, use and maintenance of instructional materials and equipment.
• Assist with teacher-planned activities, exercises and drills.
• Assist when needed in helping students in self care activities such as feeding and toileting.
• Assist in implementing the therapy programs which may require lifting and positioning.
• Attend professional meetings as required.
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
• Physically prompt students through instruction which may require lifting and positioning.
• Other SHARS Duties as assigned.
• Provide Personal Care as identified in applicable student IEPs.

Equipment Used:

Personal computer, copier, printer, voice output devices, playground equipment and motor lab equipment.

Working Conditions:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, and pulling; occasional running, heavy lifting and carrying, 45 pounds and over daily, positioning of students, moving classroom or adaptive equipment , noise exposure, biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases; exposure to physical and verbal outbursts by students. May be required to utilize CPI strategies to manage disruptive students, including restraint.
