Job Summary
Cardinal Ritter Senior Services, a ministry of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Saint Louis, is seeking a Dietary Aide. Functions as dietary aide for Mary Queen & Mother Center. The ideal candidate is passionate about supporting our residents in a mission-driven senior services environment.
Job Responsibilities
- Maintains good personal hygiene.
- Prepares and handles food in a safe and sanitary manner.
- Plates and/or serves food in a safe and sanitary manner and an eye appealing way.
- Sets tables.
- Prepares residents’ trays based on the diet description provided on the residents’ tray slip.
- Assists residents in cutting meat, opening milk, condiments, juice, etc.
- Follows and meets job breakdown schedules.
- Serves food at appropriate temperatures.
- Completes all cleaning assignments.
- Properly labels, dates, and stores food in proper location and manner.
- Follow tray dietary slips accurately.
- Reports any safety or sanitation hazards to lead or manager.
- Reports any problems with residents and/or any changes in resident eating habits to Dietitian or Assistant Dietitian.
- Operates dish machine correctly and efficiently, making sure dishes and silverware are clean and sanitized correctly and air dried.
- Scrapes, washes, rinses and sanitizes pots, pans, and utensils properly following the guidelines for washing dishes in a three-compartment sink.
- Returns all cleaned dishes, silverware, pots and pans to appropriate storage areas.
- Clean the dish machine and dish room thoroughly after each meal.
- Receives and puts away stock using the FIFO (First In First Out) method.
- Attends in‑services and training meetings, staff meetings or any other meeting as required.
- Empties trashcans, cleans and sanitizes trashcans and disposes of trash correctly. Replaces trash liner.
- Sweep and mops floor thoroughly.
- Performs heavy duty cleaning as assigned.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
- Attends pre‑meal huddles, listens and follows directions.
- Operates griddle to prepare simple sandwiches and eggs upon request by residents.
- Washes hands and changes gloves at appropriate times following proper technique.
Knowledge and Experience Requirements
- Ability to read write and communicate effectively in English.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English and understand and follow instructions.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous food service, dietary, healthcare, hospitality or food‑service experience.
- Basic knowledge of food preparation, sanitation, infection prevention, and safe food handling.
Skills and Competencies Required

- Able to stand, walk, manipulate equipment with hands, lift 50 lbs, push 100 lbs, and bend.

- Ability to withstand heat and temperature change.
- Awareness of kitchen hazards to prevent accidents.
- Ability to meet time deadlines.
- Ability to work in a stressful environment.
- Able to read tray tickets and understand diet orders, fluid restrictions and texture modification differences.
