Job summary

UC San Diego’s CW3E machine learning team seeks a scientist to advance AI weather prediction models, focusing on modeling, analyzing, and predicting extreme weather and hydrometeorological events. Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in meteorology, atmospheric sciences, climate science or related field.
• Master’s degree or PhD preferred.
• Experience in implementing machine learning methods for weather/climate research.
• Experience in handling AI weather models and numerical weather prediction model simulations.
• Knowledge of NOAA/ECMWF models and relevant datasets.
• Strong statistical analysis, systems programming, and scripting (Python/R/Matlab).
• Experience using ML software on cloud environments (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-Learn) on AWS/Azure.
• Ability to communicate complex results in writing and presentations.
• Thorough knowledge of research function and independent research experience.
