Job summary

University of Chicago is seeking a Senior Research Analyst for the AI Weather Research team within PSD Data Science. The role leads development and evaluation of AI-based weather and climate models, reports to Prof. Pedram Hassanzadeh, and supports cross-team workflows from data prep to outputs.

Ideal candidate has climate/weather science expertise and AI application experience, with ability to lead projects and communicate results to diverse audiences.

Qualifications

• Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.
• Experience developing AI-based weather and climate forecasting models.
• Experience with model inference optimization and deployment in production or research environments.
• Experience in working with large, high-dimensional model output to evaluate model behavior and physics consistency.
• Experience with large-scale data processing and storage systems.

Responsibilities

• Train and run AI weather and climate models.
• Evaluate AI weather and climate models using diagnostics to assess performance and physical consistency.
• Create and analyze datasets for training and evaluation of AI weather and climate models.
• Document and communicate research results, and contribute to publications and reports.
• Apply research principles to administer a research project.
• With moderate direction, manage lab and/or research duties and tasks.
• Help develop, design, and conduct research projects according to plan.
• Support data collection and analytical needs of research projects.
• Take responsibility for laboratory duties: recognizing abnormal results, setting up experiments, analyzing results.
