Job summary

Matson is seeking an AI Specialist to build KPI-driven insights from terminal data and guide the adoption of AI tools across the organization in Anchorage, Alaska. You will translate complex terminal operations into measurable KPIs, source and map data, and partner with IT and operations to maximize AI impact.

The role requires strong data skills, experience with AI tools, and the ability to train staff and drive governance. A background in transportation or logistics is highly valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS, Data/Business Analytics, or related field.
• 3–5 years of experience in operations, process improvement, data analysis, technology implementation, or operational excellence.
• Experience defining operational KPIs from raw data and building reporting to sustain them.
• Hands-on experience extracting, organizing, and preparing structured and unstructured data for analytics or AI-driven workflows.
• Hands-on experience using AI tools in a professional environment; familiarity with generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, Copilot, Claude, or Gemini.
• Good understanding of business processes and operational workflows, with a track record of identifying opportunities for AI, automation, and process improvement.
• Experience developing and delivering training programs.

Responsibilities

• Terminal Operations Analytics: develop KPI definitions for crane productivity, gate throughput, yard utilization, and cost per lift.
• Translate operational processes into measurable KPIs and build repeatable reports.
• Identify, extract, and prepare data from terminal systems, timekeeping, equipment/telemetics, emails, PDFs, and reports.
• Map data into KPIs and track improvements over time.
• Collaborate with leadership to validate KPI targets and prioritize AI applications.
• Measure business impact: efficiency gains, cost savings, ROI from AI initiatives.
• Design AI training programs, workshops, and hands-on sessions.
• Create AI playbooks and SOPs for departments.
