Job summary

BCforward is seeking an AI Software Engineer III to join our AI agentic engineering team in Farmington Hills, MI. You will work on Python, TypeScript, AWS, and infrastructure as code to design and deliver cross-service enforcement guardrails and scalable backend services.

The role emphasizes building robust APIs, observability, and defensive programming with a focus on contract stability across services. This is a contract position with potential onsite Cincinnati preference noted by supplier.

Qualifications

• Strong Python and TypeScript coding skills with production-grade standards.
• Extensive AWS experience including Lambda, Fargate, API Gateway.
• Experience with infrastructure as code, preferably Terraform.
• Ability to design scalable backend services and APIs across services.
• Experience defining enforcement patterns and contracts for other teams.
• Systems thinking for cross-service dependencies and failure propagation.

• Define where enforcement, filtering, and validation should occur in architectures.

Job Description

We are seeking an AI Software Engineer III to join our AI agentic engineering team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in Python, TypeScript, AWS, and infrastructure as code and a proven ability to design and deliver cross-service enforcement guardrails, scalable backend services, and repeatable defensive programming patterns.

Responsibilities:

• Design and deliver backend services and APIs that enforce system behavior across multiple services.
• Define where and how enforcement, filtering, and validation should occur within system architectures.
• Build cross-service controls and establish patterns for other engineers to implement.
• Instrument and improve observability across service boundaries with structured logging, metrics, and distributed tracing.
• Own shared tooling and platform components with broad organizational reach.
• Mentor engineers on safe design, defensive programming, and failure handling practices.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Strong proficiency in Python and TypeScript with production-quality coding standards.
• Advanced experience with AWS services, including Lambda, Fargate, and API Gateway.
• Advanced experience with infrastructure as code, preferably Terraform, in production environments.
• Proven ability to design and implement scalable backend services and APIs across service boundaries.
• Experience defining enforcement patterns and interface contracts consumed by other teams.
• Systems thinking with strength in cross-service dependencies, failure propagation, and contract stability.
• Clear communication of defensive design principles to engineering audiences.
• 5-8 years of software engineering experience in relevant roles.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience designing enforcement, filtering, or validation logic that spans multiple services.
• Track record of defining interfaces, contracts, or patterns adopted by other engineers.
• Ability to mentor junior and mid-level engineers on defensive design and safe coding practices.
• Experience with agentic workflows or multi-agent systems and familiarity with LLM integration patterns, including prompt injection detection, guardrail design, or output filtering.
• Experience with AWS Bedrock, including model invocation, guardrail configuration, or AgentCore runtimes.
