Job summary

RAND Corporation seeks a Visiting AI Security Resident to lead complex, multi-disciplinary projects spanning technical research, policy analysis, and infrastructure development related to securing AI systems. You will build threat models, develop evaluation tools, and inform policy with rapid briefs and in-depth research products.

Location options include hybrid arrangements across multiple US cities, with potential for longer-term opportunities at RAND.

Qualifications

• Technical experience in security engineering, software/firmware/hardware engineering or related fields.
• Technical management experience, including leading cross-functional teams, managing project budgets, and mentoring team members.
• Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects to completion.
• Proficiency in Python, Java, C/C++, or other popular programming languages.
• Ability to develop rigorous threat models and identify vulnerabilities.
• Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to reason about policy options given technical considerations.
• Ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
• Fluency with MS Office suite.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex projects spanning technical research, policy analysis, and infrastructure development.
• Develop AI-specific threat models and tools for AI cyber capability evaluations.
• Communicate results to senior government and industry leaders through briefs and detailed reports.
