Job summary

Kairos Project seeks a Research Manager to mentor SPAR mentors and strengthen research leadership across AI safety initiatives. You will guide researchers leading SPAR projects, help teams stay on track, and elevate mentorship quality.

You’ll collaborate with SPAR’s program lead and may expand responsibilities to shape recruitment, onboarding, and program governance as SPAR grows, all within a remote, part-time fellowship.

Qualifications

• Substantial research experience, e.g., PhD or multiple projects.
• Proven ability to mentor and manage researchers.
• Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills.
• Organizational discipline to handle multiple mentors and deadlines.
• Familiarity with AI safety landscape and governance.
• Mission-driven with passion for AI safety research.

Responsibilities

• Be main point of contact for mentor portfolio and set expectations.
• Coach first-time mentors to lead research teams effectively.
• Manage sensitive team situations and resolve conflicts.
• Advise on publications, workshops, and venues for research outputs.
• Contribute to recruitment, onboarding, and program quality as SPAR grows.
