Apogee Engineering, LLC is seeking an AI Prototyping Engineer for Offutt AFB, NE, to develop AI-driven prototypes and rapid software concepts.

You will translate mission needs into testable prototypes, use AI coding tools, and demonstrate value to stakeholders while ensuring security, privacy, and reliability. Collaboration with product teams and SMEs is essential in a fast-paced, governed environment.

Qualifications

• US citizenship is required and TS/SCI eligibility is necessary.
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical discipline; 15+ years of relevant experience, including DoD work.
• Experience building rapid software prototypes with AI-assisted development tools.

Responsibilities

• Translate mission requirements into rapid software prototypes.
• Use AI coding tools to generate, modify, test, deploy, and explain software.
• Build proof-of-concept web applications, internal tools, automations, dashboards, and integrations.
• Rapidly explore multiple product directions and assess feasibility, value, and UX.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, SMEs, and end users to refine ideas.
• Create prototypes suitable for user testing and stakeholder feedback.
• Connect prototypes to APIs, databases, spreadsheets, SaaS platforms, and data sources.
• Document prompts, decisions, assumptions, limitations, and follow-up recommendations.
• Identify when prototypes are ready for production handoff.
• Apply standards for privacy, security, accessibility, reliability, and responsible AI use.
• Evaluate AI-generated code for correctness, security, and licensing.
• Present prototypes and findings clearly to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
• Help establish repeatable methods and guardrails for AI-assisted software development.
