Job summary

Mixpanel is seeking a driven Software Engineer for the AI Platform team to build scalable, secure infrastructure that accelerates AI agent development. You will lead as a key contributor in a fast, small team, delivering value to users and internal teams.

You will design backend services and orchestration frameworks, focus on reliability, observability, and best practices, and collaborate across product, design, and engineering. This is a frontline, high-impact role in the SF Bay Area.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 2+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong full-stack fundamentals: frontend, backend, and data layers.
• Excellent debugging and technical investigation skills.
• Strong technical communication, especially in asynchronous remote environments.
• Ability to move fast and iterate in ambiguous environments.
• Hands-on experience integrating and orchestrating LLMs and agents.
• Experience building AI native systems and scaling them in production.
• Familiarity with techniques to optimize AI agents: eval frameworks, agent tooling, vector search engines, context engineering, and prompt engineering.
• Desire to leverage AI to drive product improvement, observability, and product analytics at scale.

Responsibilities

• Platform Architecture: Design and develop core backend services, APIs, and microservices.
• Agent Orchestration: Build scalable frameworks for multi-step agent workflows.
• Evaluation & Reliability: Build robust evaluation systems for quality and task success.
• Observability & MLOps: Implement monitoring and distributed tracing for AI models.
• Operational Excellence: Ensure high-performance serving with latency and cost-control.
• Collaboration: Work with designers, PMs, and engineers to build self-serve infrastructure.
• Leadership: Mentor junior engineers and conduct design reviews.
