Job summary

RWE Americas, LLC is seeking a Principal AI Engineer to lead platform-level AI capabilities and establish engineering patterns used across squads and business units. You will own technical design, build, and operations for shared AI services, reporting to the AI Platform leadership.

The role requires deep enterprise AI development experience, production cloud and CI/CD, and mentoring of senior engineers. This is an office-based role with travel as needed to other RWE locations.

Qualifications

• Master’s or PhD in computer science, data science, STEM, or related field.
• Minimum 11 years of relevant professional experience in software or AI/ML engineering roles.
• Deep expertise in enterprise-scale AI development and platform architecture.
• Production experience with a major cloud platform, Python, containerized deployment and CI/CD for AI services.
• Experience integrating and operating shared AI platform services in a production enterprise environment.
• Hands-on ownership of evaluation, guardrail, and audit infrastructure for responsible AI.

Responsibilities

• Integrate and operate shared AI platform capabilities across squads and business units.
• Solve enterprise AI engineering challenges including retrieval quality and safe agent operation.
• Define reference implementations for AI development and drive adoption.
• Operationalize responsible AI with evaluation, guardrails, explainability, and auditing.
• Deliver AI platform cost efficiency through instrumentation and product-level economics.
• Mentor and develop junior AI engineers.
