Job summary

Subcritical Systems, Inc. in Austin, TX, is seeking an AI Operations Engineer to identify, deploy, and scale practical AI solutions across engineering, manufacturing, project delivery, and operations.

You will translate operational challenges into high-value AI use cases and pilot workflows, partnering with technical teams to measure impact. A core focus is expanding ATLAS, the central agentic platform for solving complex engineering problems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, information systems, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 1+ years building and implementing AI solutions in an operational environment.
• Experience with generative AI, tool calling, retrieval-augmented generation, multi-agent workflows, data integration, and workflow orchestration.
• Proven ability to design, prototype, pilot, deploy, and scale agentic AI systems in real business workflows.
• Experience connecting AI agents to enterprise data, tools, APIs, databases, and systems.
• Ability to map complex processes and translate needs into technical requirements.
• Understanding of data protection, cybersecurity, responsible AI, and safe deployment.

Responsibilities

• Own SSI’s AI implementation roadmap, prioritizing use cases and integrating into ATLAS.
• Map processes and identify AI automation opportunities.
• Design, prototype, pilot, deploy, and scale AI-enabled workflows with software engineers.
• Define requirements for AI workflows across SSI’s software, data, and processes.
• Partner with engineering, operations, and business teams to deliver solutions.
• Evaluate AI tools and choices to build, adopt, pilot, or defer.
• Define success metrics and measure improvements in quality, speed, cost, throughput, and hours saved.
