Job summary

Theron Solutions is seeking an AI-Native Electrical Engineer to mature early prototype hardware into deployable alpha systems for design partners. This hands-on role focuses on high-voltage power electronics, design for manufacturability, and close collaboration with external partners.

You will own prototype-to-alpha transitions, design 800V-class power systems using SiC, and validate performance via SPICE/PLECS. Detroit relocation is anticipated, with a fast-paced, prototype-driven environment.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years designing, prototyping, and testing power electronics systems.
  • Experience in EV, EV charging, solar or battery storage.
  • Experience with high‑voltage / high‑power switching systems (e.g. 800V, SiC).

Responsibilities

  • Own the transition from prototype → alpha product; iterate lab-scale systems into customer-ready hardware.
  • Design and build 800V-class power systems; develop power conversion, switching, and distribution architectures using SiC devices.
  • Model, simulate, and validate performance with SPICE/PLECS; iterate rapidly on designs.
  • Lead hands-on bring-up, debugging, and characterization using high-power equipment.
  • Leverage AI-native workflows to accelerate design, testing, and iteration cycles.
  • Coordinate end-to-end hardware execution with PCB fabrication and external partners.
  • Drive system-level tradeoffs across performance, thermals, reliability, and manufacturability.

Job description

We’re looking for an AI-Native Electrical Engineer to take early-stage prototypes and evolve them into deployable alpha hardware systems for first design partners. This is a highly hands-on, full-stack hardware role focused on turning concepts into real, working products.

What will you be doing?
  • Own the transition from prototype → alpha product. Take rough, lab-scale systems and iterate them into structured, testable, and customer-ready hardware.
  • Design and build high-voltage DC power systems (800V-class). Develop power conversion, switching, and distribution architectures using modern semiconductor devices (e.g. SiC).
  • Model, simulate, and validate system performance. Use tools like SPICE or PLECS to evaluate electrical, thermal, and system-level behavior, and rapidly iterate on designs.
  • Bring hardware to life in the lab. Lead hands‑on bring‑up, debugging, and characterization using high-power equipment, solving real-world issues across switching, timing, sensing, and protection.
  • Leverage AI-native workflows to accelerate development. Use modern tools (agents, LLMs, simulation augmentation) to move faster through design, testing, and iteration cycles.
  • Coordinate end-to-end hardware execution. Work with external partners on PCB fabrication, component sourcing, and packaging while ensuring designs come together into a cohesive, presentable system.
  • Drive system-level thinking and tradeoffs. Make pragmatic design decisions across performance, thermals, reliability, and manufacturability to move quickly toward a functional product.
Seniority
  • 4+ years of experience designing, prototyping, and testing power electronics systems.
Work Experience
  • Owned hardware from prototype → validated system (design, simulation, bring‑up, iteration).
  • Experience in EV, EV charging, solar, or battery storage.
  • Experience with high‑voltage / high‑power switching systems (e.g. 800V, SiC, fast‑switching).
Education
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or proven power electronics aptitude.
Hard Skills
  • Strong system intuition / ability to reason about electrical + thermal + mechanical tradeoffs.
  • AI‑native; uses AI tools (agents, models) in their workflow.
  • Proficient with electrical simulation software (e.g., SPICE, PLECS).
  • Hands‑on experience with gate‑driver design for fast‑switching architectures.
Soft Skills
  • High agency and a bias for action.
  • Proven curiosity demonstrated through side projects (e.g., Formula SAE).
  • Located in or willing to relocate to Detroit, MI.
