Job summary

In Tandem is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to advance AI-native development across multiple rotations within our Engineering team. You’ll focus on Java/Spring backend, review agent output, and ship features end-to-end while collaborating with product, design, QA, and automation engineers.

The role emphasizes deep backend expertise, systems judgment, and the ability to coordinate across teams to solve meaningful problems for families. Remote work options are available within Minnesota.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of production software engineering with a statically typed backend language.
• Fluency in spec-driven development and AI-native tooling.
• Experience using AI coding agents as a primary development interface.
• Strong knowledge of relational databases and ORM.
• Proven delivery in cross-functional teams shipping to production.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with product managers, designers, QA, and engineers across rotations.
• Write specs, orchestrate multi-file agent work, and review outcomes.
• Ship production features multiple times a day, with AI-powered workflows.
• Review AI-generated code and ensure reliability and correctness.
• Engage in SDLC planning and production release activities.
