Job summary

The Materials & Manufacturing Systems Research Lab at General Motors in Warren, MI seeks an AI/ML intern to perform cutting‑edge research in smart manufacturing. You’ll build and scale AI/ML models, work across GenAI and world models, and present findings to leadership.

You will collaborate with GM researchers and academics, contribute to production‑grade solutions, and develop a strong record of invention and publication.

Qualifications

• Pursuit of an advanced degree (PhD or Masters) in Computer Science, ML, AI, Applied Math, Engineering, Physics, or related field.
• Must be a current student.
• Demonstrated success building and deploying AI/ML models in production or high‑value applied research environments.
• Deep expertise across AI domains including ML, DL, LLMs, GenAI, world models, and physics‑based ML.
• Strong understanding of modern AI/ML development workflows (data pipelines, training, evaluation, deployment, monitoring).
• Background in manufacturing process modeling, design, control, and optimization.
• Manufacturing engineering theory and production management & operations.
• Excellent collaborative skills.
• Proven record of high impact publications.

Responsibilities

• Build, validate, deploy, and scale AI/ML models for high‑impact manufacturing engineering and R&D.
• Conduct technical work across AI domains including ML, DL, GenAI, LLMs, world models, and physics‑based AI.
• Translate business and engineering problems into practical AI/ML solution strategies and executable plans.
• Serve as a technical authority on model development, deployment architectures, data strategy, evaluation methods, and responsible AI practices.
• Develop working relationships with internal and external subject matter experts.
• Collaborate with global technical teams and lead discussions as an expert in manufacturing AI/ML.
• Publish results through internal and external channels.
