Job summary

General Motors Research Lab in Warren, MI seeks an AI/ML intern to advance Smart Manufacturing Systems. You will design, train, and deploy AI/ML models, including GenAI and agentic AI, and address real engineering challenges in GM plants.

You will collaborate with researchers and plant teams, publish results, and contribute to strategic AI roadmaps. The role requires pursuing an advanced degree and strong coding and analytics skills; hybrid work and potential relocation considerations apply.

Qualifications

• Pursuit of an advanced degree (PhD or Masters) in a relevant field.
• Demonstrated success building and deploying AI/ML models in production or applied research.
• Deep expertise across multiple AI domains including ML, DL, LLMs, and physics-based ML.
• Experience with data pipelines, model lifecycle, and evaluation.

Responsibilities

• Build, validate, deploy, and scale AI/ML models for manufacturing R&D applications.
• Conduct research across ML, GenAI, LLMs, World Models, and physics-based AI.
• Translate problems into actionable AI/ML strategies and plans.
• Present results to GM management and publish findings.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external partners; maintain cutting-edge skills.
• Lead discussions on strategy, roadmap, and business impact in projects.
